Their justification to the masses was the blood was needed to keep the sun moving across the sky, to ensure to prosperity of the Aztec Empire, and to protect the people from destruction and chaos. The masses in fear built huge temples to the Sun Gods and these became the stages for the rituals and bloodletting, but the secrets of the Dark God and his insatiable appetite remained buried in the shadows.
